Jack Flaherty is a Mama’s Boy (And I’m Totally Here For It)
The Cardinals’ ace, Jack Flaherty pitched six beautiful innings with a very cushy lead for Game Five of the NLDS on Wednesday night. Giving up just one run (a solo homer to Josh Donaldson), it was all the stunned Braves would get off of him. There’s been a bit of debate as to why St. Louis started their ace at all, when it was pretty obvious that they’d likely win the game – and everyone is scratching their heads as to why they allowed him to go so deep into the ballgame with 104 pitches. They
should could have pulled him after an inning or two, and let him get an earlier start in the NLCS, but Flaherty wanted to stay in and do his part to advance his team to the next round of playoff action.
And when the game was over, Jack went over to his mom and hugged her in a way that makes all mamas’ hearts swell to fifty times their size.

He then doubled down with this tweet later on:

His mom, Eileen, adopted Jack as a single mom when he was just three weeks old. This isn’t the first time Jack has introduced us to his mom, and it certainly won’t be the last. He credits her for much of his success and for sticking with the game, and he still lives near her. As
an overbearing Greek a mom myself, watching Flaherty gush about his own mom all the time on https://www.instagram.com/p/BxXjLSkAmNc/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="12" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">
Sure, anyone he decides to marry someday will have to work around a nightly dinner with Mama Flaherty. Last I heard, he’s still with his high school sweetheart, Jenna Berman, so I’m sure she’s used to it by now.
